Rotunda Park’s extreme makeover

Turffontein's most beautiful and modern park is complete.

TURFFONTEIN – The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo had another one of their extreme park makeovers at Rotunda Park in Turffontein on Thursday March 26.

The Johannesburg Municipality Mayor Parks Tau, MMC of Community Development Chris Vondo, and ANC Ward 124 Councillor Sidney Radebe were present at the much-needed revamp, which saw more than 250 workers planting trees, laying grass, painting, paving, and installing flower beds, the popular green outdoor gym equipment and state-of-the-art play equipment.

The entire park was filled with joyful adults and children, celebrating the rebirth of the park, which has a rich historical significance as one of the Joburg’s jewels and home to some of the oldest tree vistas.

Rotunda Park will now offer residents a unique outdoor experience for families to gather, play and enjoy healthy lifestyles, while having lots of fun.

Ward 124 ANC Cllr Radebe said: “The ANC-led Johannesburg government, City Parks and Zoo have made us proud. This is a one of a kind park, because we consulted with the people and the people told us what they wanted. Of course we do have small challenges like grass cutting, but we want our people to know that at the same time we are also have a major development that lasts a life time.”

Councillor Sidney Radebe is happy that the park is an outdoor recreational facility, where young people will spend their time engaging in productive and positive activity, rather than in the streets where they can be exposed to negativity.

“Most people do not know that I also ride a bicycle. I am sure I will be coming here to cycle as I am also a resident of the South,” the Mayor joked. His name was sung by the large audience.
