Naturena’s most beloved son passed away

Shocked Naturena residents mourns Lungile with pride by lighting colourful candles on Tuesday evening March 24 to pay their last respects.

ON Sunday 22 March at about 20:30 a speeding grey Toyota Corolla allegedly knocked down and dragged Lungile Papiyano (40), leaving him dead on Vesting Street.

According to witnesses the driver of the vehicle did not stop to inspect what happened, it was a hit-and-run.

The deceased comes from rural Eastern Cape and was a Human Resources graduate from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He was an active member of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and a long-standing member of the African National Congress (ANC).

He is survived by his mother, father and sisters. And he will be solemnly missed by Naturena residents, outraged friends and comrades who respectfully descended on the accident to pray with lit candles.

ANC Ward 119 PR Councillor Nhlanhla Mthembu and ANC branch leadership led a moving prayer that nearly had everybody in tears.

“I knew Lungile while I was still staying at Zola in Soweto during the nineties; he was our own active member of the ANC. He was quite outspoken and a straight talker, very humble when coming to political issues, but quite radical when approaching social matters,” said Nhlanhla Mthembu.

The bus fare will be R800 per person per round trip. The PR council appealed to concerned residents to help collect R20 or any amount pledged will be definitely appreciated.

Lungile will be laid to rest on April 4 in Komani, Queenstown, Eastern Cape.

Naturena residents say: “With Psalm 23, may your beloved soul rest in peace. Hamba kahle, Lungile.”

A murder case has being opened with Mondeor Police.
