A 10-YEAR-OLD boy who lives in Stoney Ridge, Winchester Hills, was on his bicycle in the complex when he was hit by a car in February.

According to his mom, Rubaina Khan, Mohammed, a learner at Mondeor Primary School, was on a small bike riding down a hill in the complex. “When he came to the bottom, there’s a sharp bend and the vehicle came around the bend too fast from the opposite direction, and hit him.

“The woman who was driving the car said my son rode into her and she’s not responsible for the accident. She was more concerned about her precious car than Mohammed lying screaming in pain on the paving,” said Rubaina.

Mohammed sustained fractures to both sides of his pelvic bones, a broken femur, as well as grazes and bruising from the accident. He underwent an operation and had a plate inserted into his leg.

According to the complex rules it doesn’t say no bicycles allowed in the complex, apart from the pool area. “Children need to play outside and there is no designated play area,” she added. There are no speed limit signs in the complex either.

“Up to now the medical accounts are over R100 000 and we don’t have a medical aid. Mohammed is also undergoing physiotherapy and will have to learn to walk all over again. The woman who bumped into him has not once been to see how Mohammed is or asked about his well-being. We did report the accident at the police station and have a case number,” she said.
