Dangerous house robbers escapes arrest

Residents warned to watch out for a silver Hyundai iX35 used by six armed and dangerous criminals

ON February 27, the community was shaken by a report of a house robbery incident by six men on Pretorius Street in Suideroord.

According to Mondeor SAPS Communications Officer, Constable Mnguni, the suspects were in a Hyundai iX35, which they parked in front of the home when the domestic worker noticed them.

The domestic phoned her employer to find out whether they were expecting company when the suspects pounced on her. She was forced inside, her hands and feet tied up and the house ransacked in search of valuables.

“An armed house robbery took place in Suideroord, six armed men attacked residents. Mondeor SAPS are on the scene taking statements and say that only one shot was fired but no one was hurt,” said Constable Mnguni.

She also confirmed that the Hyundai iX35 used by the suspects had no vehicle registration plates. Residents were urged to be extremely careful and to also be on the lookout for the getaway vehicle; the suspects however are still at large.

The home owner alerted the Mondeor Sector 2 CPF patrollers of a break-in in progress, and the Mondeor SAPS were also called in. Although officials acted swiftly after the call, the suspects managed to evade arrest.

A family member who arrived at the house while the robbery was still in process was shot at twice. During their escape the suspects drove off with the back boot open and the stolen goods including a flat scene TV and other items fell out of the vehicle.
