City Power acts swiftly repairing exploded transformer

Urgent intervention by authorities saw residents get a new transformer and their power back

ORMONDE – When Ormonde residents heard a loud banging sound, many said they knew that was the sound of big trouble; and they were right.

Two City Power transformers had exploded on the corner of Jardine and Ellingen roads at 04:00 in February, leaving a section of the suburb without power for nearly two days.

While City Power is infamous for leaving transformers open with damaged doors and no locks, the immediate intervention by Ward 54 Cllr Sergio Dos Santos and swift reaction by City Power brought relief.

Cllr Dos Santos maintained constant contact with City Power, urging a prompt intervention. He also kept residents informed on the progress by technicians and the appointed subcontractor.

City Power contractors worked tirelessly through the night, completely replacing one of the transformers and repairing the destroyed cables in the other.

Residents have informed the COURIER that no troubles have been experienced with power since the day in question, and they are pleased with how the matter was handled.
