Unscrupulous conman continues to steal from AACL

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) first reported the case of an imposter stealing their fundraising tins in December last year.

REGENTS PARK – Disappointingly, however, it appears that the same unscrupulous conman is continuing to misrepresent himself by claiming to be an employee of the AACL and unlawfully stealing their fundraising tins from outlets where they have been placed.

Said Tony Guia, AACL Chairman, “This is essentially a criminal offence and should be treated as such. This person falsely claims to be an employee of the AACL and requests our collection tins. Unfortunately, credentials are sometimes not verified by the outlet and the tins are handed over. We once again appeal to business owners and their staff to please check identification details before handing over our collection tins. If they are in any doubt whatsoever, they should call Robin Steele, AACL tin coordinator, on 011 435 0672. Funds raised through this medium are given in good faith by animal lovers and supporters of the AACL.

“It is distressing to think that this unconscionable impersonator is responsible for the theft of these good faith donations, taking away from the very animals they were intended to help. If anyone has information that could assist us in identifying the culprit, please report it to the AACL, so that we, in turn, can notify SAPS.”
