Know your Moffatview community policing forum

CPF's around the country are governed by constitution and code of conduct.

MOFFATVIEW- Background of the CPF – The Community Policing Forum (CPF) is established as a community body to assist the community to liaise between the SAPS and the community. The CPF is a recognised body by the SAPS and all relevant stakeholders.

The role of the South African Police Service (SAPS) is to prevent, combat and investigate crime, to maintain public order, to protect and secure the inhabitants of South Africa and their property and to uphold and enforce the law.

The function of the CPF is identified in the South African Police Service Act 68 of 1995 Sections 18-23. In terms of this Act the objectives of the CPF is to:

• Establish and maintain a partnership between the community and the Service (SAPS).

• Promote communication between the Service (SAPS) and the community.

• Promote cooperation between the Service (SAPS) and the community in fulfilling the needs of the community regarding policing.

• Improve the rendering of police services to the community at national, provincial, area and local levels.

• Improve transparency in the Service (SAPS) and accountability of the Service (SAPS) to the community.

• Promote joint problem identification and problem-solving by the Service (SAPS) and the community.

• Launch different crime prevention projects in order to combat crime in the various precincts.

The above however does not preclude liaison by the Service (SAPS) with the community by means other than through community police forums and boards. In order to build trust and teamwork between SAPS and the community, the CPF will bridge any gaps.

CPF’s around the country are governed by a constitution and a code of conduct and have been elected by the people for the people.

The community is invited to stand together with the CPF to assist in fighting crime in the Moffatview Precinct, together with SAPS and the various stakeholders, eg Security Companies, JMPD, Councillors, etc.
