Pit-bull court case won

The dog was removed and taken for treatment to the JSPCA veterinary hospital. Charges were laid in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – In August 2014, Inspector Xolane Mncube received a call from a caring member of the public living in Soweto. The concern was about a pit-bull who was not only living in terrible conditions, but also needed veterinary treatment.

The dog was removed and taken for treatment to the JSPCA veterinary hospital. Charges were laid in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.

Thanks to the efforts of Inspector Xolane Mnube and the South African Police Services, justice was served.

The accused was found guilty and received the following sentence:

1. 30 Days imprisonment and,

2. A suspended sentence for five years and,

3. Declared unfit to own an animal for two years.
