Kutlwanong honours class of 2014

These boys and girls proved that disadvantaged backgrounds do not prevent academic excellence.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Kutlwanong is a non-profit organisation founded in 2001 by veteran educator and social entrepreneur, Mr. Tumelo Mabitsela, focusing on math, science and accounting education for high school learners in previously disadvantaged communities.

The programme awarded certificates and bursaries to students who excelled in their 2014 academic year on Wednesday January 21.

The event was held in Liberty’s Braamfontein building, welcoming an inspiring, global award-winning South African, Siyabulela Xuza, who built and launched a homemade rocket in his rural home at Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, before he went to the United States to study at Harvard University.

Siyabulela gave an inspirational speech and all the matriculants, guests, stakeholders and journalist gave him a standing ovation; after he showed a video of the United States’s First Lady, Michelle Obama, talking about him.

Kutlwanong is proud of the cause; it has attracted other value-adding individuals, companies and institutions serving in different capacities for the improvement of our society through education.

The cause has enjoyed a huge success rate since its inception, and has once again produced a large number of students with distinctions in maths and science for the 2014 academic year.
