JSB achieves 100% matric pass rate

It is unfortunate that some of the students, who became visually impaired at a later stage in their lives, were denied the opportunity to matriculate from their previous schools due to their age.

ROSEACRE – The Johannesburg Society for the Blind (JSB) is proud to announce that their class of 2014 has excelled with a pass rate of 100 per cent. The results were released by the Department of Basic Education.

Some of the students, Thomas Sono, Sibusiso Malang, Desmond Mathabela, Xolile Mboko, Sipho Ramonana, Maeti Mapila and Gcobisa Masinyane, managed to obtain distinctions in some of their subjects.

The students describe their journey as a very challenging one. The students faced challenges such as having to depend on the tutors to explain the tasks at hand, having to adjust to the environment which they were in as well as using their imagination to transfer hardware data.

It is unfortunate that some of the students, who became visually impaired at a later stage in their lives, were denied the opportunity to matriculate from their previous schools due to their age.

The students at JSB are very grateful to the society, their tutors as well as City Deep Adult Learning Centre for granting them the opportunity to matriculate. The founder of the Vangile Nyamathe Academy for the Visually Impaired is extremely proud of the learners, and hopes to continue making a difference in the lives of the visually impaired youths in the community.

The JSB is willing to prove to the world that anything is possible against all odds. The Society would also like to wish all those who will be completing their 2015 matric with them the best of luck.
