Young man stole pensioner’s money

The sadness and disappointment affected his health to the extent that his son had to remove him from his flat to stay with him for a while.

REUVEN – For many South Africans, the New Year is met with great jubilation, but for Mr Andrew Mokoena, a resident at Reuven Old Age Home, it was a sad day.

The sadness and disappointment affected his health to the extent that his son had to remove him from his flat to stay with him for a while.

This depressing story started on January 2, when Mokoena asked a trusted young man, who stayed with him for a long time, to take his SASSA Pension Card to draw some money, to buy food, and other necessities, such as pre-paid electricity, etc. Mokoena, has been sick for a very long time, he finds it difficult to walk without assistance.

After waiting for a few hours for the young man to return, he started to get worried, fearing that something bad could have happened to him, after some investigation, it was found that this young man disappeared with all his pension, and he is missing, not to be found.

Mokoena, was devastated; he just could not believe that this man, in whom he had so much trust he give him shelter, knew there was absolutely no money, no food or even electricity in the flat.

Neighbours said this young man was very respectable, quiet and always very helpful to Mokoena and to other residents as well. They also cannot believe that he could have done such a wicked thing to a sickly man who gave him shelter and food.

This can explain why Mokoena was crying uncontrollably, neighbours could not console him, which led to one of the neighbours calling Mokoena’s son, who later came to take him away.
