South schools shoot to the roof

These school were on the "underperforming category" just last year.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Hoërskool Die Fakkel and Forest High School, from the south of Johannesburg, have seen a very significant increase in their pass rate, taking them out of the under-performing schools category.

The Turffontein schools made both principals and all teachers very pleased and proud as they both averaged at least 80% pass rates, whereas they previously averaged slightly less.

Currently, Hoërskool Die Fakkel averaged 83% which is an 11% increase from their previous average of 72%. On the other hand, Forest High School previous averaged plus minus 79% but are now sitting on an average of an impressive 87%.

The schools aim to improve even further to see all grade 12 students pass their final grade at one go and the teachers are ready to put in the work.

These results took a great deal of work from committed teachers and learners who have set standards that will be hard to beat in 2015, however, the schools welcome the challenge and hope to get a 100% pass rate in the nearing future.

The schools had a number of distinctions in various subjects and a student from Forest High School, Khanyile Ntokozo, got five distinctions with a 91% pass in Physical Sciences and an 82% pass in Mathematics.
