Top achievers honoured at Kenilworth High

There was a surprise visitor, Mr Dennis Clark (85), who told the school that he attended grade one at the then Kenilworth Junior Primary School in 1935, when he was only six.

KENILWORTH – Parents, educators, friends and learners converged at Kenilworth High School on Tuesday December 9, to celebrate 10 years of its existence and honouring those who excelled during the year.

The school’s principal Mr Radebe thanked the parents for their involvement with their children. “A parent who is actively involved in a day-to-day run of the learner will always make an informed decision. Learners, as human beings you need to be a dreamer in life, set goals for yourselves. Acknowledge that sometimes your dream might not what you want. Look at Lucas Radebe, he wanted to be a lawyer, however he ended up being the most influential soccer player. Choose good friends because they will make you in your life. Also remember discipline is a cornerstone for your well-being,” he said.

Institutional Department Support Officer (IDSO) Inspector Kamy Dhanpat congratulated the learners on their achievements and thanked the parents for the support.

“I feel honoured to be present on this special day. The staff of this school is excellent; that is why they produce quality learners. If you pass the school during the day you will see quiet surroundings, a clean garden and the gate closed. This is a good school. Next year for the first time we are going to have grade 12. I know the district targets 90 per cent, however here we’re looking at 100 per cent. Teachers have the tools and we need parents to be supportive from day one of school next year. There are bigger things planned for next year,” explained Ms Dhanpat.

There was a surprise visitor, Mr Dennis Clark (85), who told the school that he attended grade one at the then Kenilworth Junior Primary School in 1935, when he was only six.

“I still remember all my teachers from grade 1 to standard 2 (grade 4). I remember my class teacher, she was beautiful, unfortunately six months into that year she got married and I was hurt,” he said jokingly. He urged the learners to go out and do their best, and education is the best. Mr Clark pleaded with the learners to keep it up and preserve the landmark of Kenilworth.

The overall top achiever was Brian Badiroang, and Karabo Mokgonyane was recognised as the first president of TAYITO (The African Youth In Technology Organisation) Global Girl. She thanked the teachers and fellow learners.
