Youth shocked by Dewani case judgement

"We don't know whether it's female judges who lack capacity or the justice system itself" - NFPYM

JOHANNESBURG – Busi Tshabalala, Secretary General of the NFPYM, expressed her disappointment with the judgment on Dewali’s case on Monday December 8.

“As the National Freedom Party Youth Movement, we are shocked that yet again the justice system of our country has failed to give justice to the victim of crime.

“We don’t know whether is it female judges who lack capacity or the justice system itself, because not long ago Oscar Pristorious only received a lousy five years for killing his girlfriend in cold blood. Today, again we see Dewani walking free after organising his wife’s murder.

“It seems criminals have more powers and rights that we, civil citizens. As women we are no longer safe, because people who abuse and kills us are let off the hook like it’s a fashion statement. It is even very disappointing and disturbing that it’s female judges who let perpetrators of violence against women free. Clearly, women in strategic positions are failing fellow women and victims. If our judiciary and our justice system continues to let us down like this, who can blame members of the public for taking the law into their own hands?

“As the NFPYM, we call on all women to unite and defend themselves, even if it means killing those men who attack you because even the law is anti-women.”
