Suspects sentenced for 15 years

The management wished to congratulate Sgt Nefuranyele on the success of this case.

BOOYSENS – In 2009 on November 3 at around 19:30, the complainant was inside his shop in Lindberg Park, serving customers when one customer came and demanded that the shop be opened since customers were served behind the burglar door.

The complainant’s brother opened the burglar door to let the customer in. The complainant tried to stop him and as a result another customer came in. Then suddenly two guys came in and pointed firearms at the complainant, demanding cash.

The complainant told them to take whatever they wanted, but not to shoot them. They took a large number of goods from the shop, including cash, airtime vouchers and cigarettes. A customer then came in and saw what was going on and took out his firearm to assist the complainant. The suspects started shooting at the customer and he shot back, injuring one suspect. The injured suspect was taken to hospital.

The docket was handed to D/Sgt Nefuranyele to investigate. With hard work and dedication he was able to arrest another suspect involved in the same crime. The docket was taken to court and instructions were given by the prosecutor. The investigation office compiled with all instruction and the docket was placed on the roll.

In October 16 the following sentence was handed down by the court.

Count 1, robbery with aggravating circumstance – 15 years imprisonment.

Count 2, attempted murder – five years imprisonment.

Count 3, attempted murder I five years imprisonment.

Count 2 and 3 will run concurrently with count 1, therefore the suspects will remain in prison for 15 years.
