Highest calibre of primary school art showcased

Showcasing talent and creativity were learners from seven schools in the south at a art display event held at The Glen.

EASTCLIFF – A splash of colour and creativity was showcased at The Glen Shopping Centre, when all Southern suburb primary schools were invited to display their talent at the annual Southern Suburbs Art Display event.

Mrs De Oliveira of Mondeor Primary School explained that Mondeor Primary School is the organising school of the display. The aim of the art display event was to enhance the abilities of their creative learners and to promote extra-curricular arts clubs which they believe has a lesser preference at schools.

“This gives the opportunity to schools to showcase what they are up to in their art lessons and art clubs. The Glen was generous enough to sponsor the floor space every year. Each school received a gift from Bargain Books free of charge,” said Mrs Oliveira.

Mrs Oliveira and Mrs Callan are the conveners of the event, which brought southern learners’ talents to the fore for all to appreciate.

2014 Prize winners, their parents, each school’s representative and official sponsor representatives such as Carla from The Glen and Erica for Bargain Books, all gathered at the fashion court where the children’s beautiful art was put up. The winners were presented with goodies from Bargain Books.

The list of winning schools includes Meredale Primary School with the top performing artist, Nomthandaza Mabunda in grade 7B; Forest Hill Primary School with the second top performing artist, Shudley Fick in grade 3H, Mulbarton Primary School with the third top performing artist, Ketia Muke in grade 5.

They were followed by other great artists: Aloe Ridge Primary School artist Joseden K in grade 2; Rewlatch Primary School artist Raisibe Mokoena in grade 3I; Robertsham Primary School artist Boitumelo Mollo in grade 7.

Well done to the learners, teachers and sponsors who participated in this event.
