Successful conviction by Mondeor SAPS

Illegal possession of firearm leads to suspected criminal's arrest.

MONDEOR – Six years later, a suspect has been successfully convicted for breaking the law. On October 21, Themba Mashinini of Vosloorus was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the Johannesburg Magistrates Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

On March 29, 2008 Mashinini was arrested by the SAPS Robbery and Reaction Unit. Officers noticed a white VW Golf parked in Budack Street, Glenvista with four men inside.

The officers conducted a search and found a firearm with live ammunition on a 33-year-old man. The suspect was then arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case was assigned to Constable Mbali Mvelase of Mondeor SAPS for further investigation.

The Detective Branch Commander Lieutenant Colonel Haasbroek would like to commend the investigating officer for her effort throughout the investigation.
