Good start to matric exams in Gauteng

About 140 000 learners across the province wrote their first examination paper today.

MATRIC examinations at all centres in Gauteng are reported by the Gauteng Department of Education to have got off to a good start “with no incidents or irregularities reported”.

According to GDE, about 140 000 learners across the province wrote English Home Language and First Additional Language papers on October 27.

“All districts reported that the distribution of question papers proceeded well and most schools started on time,” said a statement by the GDE.

Gauteng has this year registered a total of 101 265 fulltime candidates and 42 382 part-time candidates. These candidates were writing their exams in 928 centres across all districts in Gauteng.

The Education Department said it has “established an exams war room to monitor the process, and a rapid response team is also on standby to respond to any eventuality”.

Accounting, isiZulu, isiNdebele and isiSiswati are the next subjects to be written on October 28.
