Beware of scam syndicate

Scammers target the elderly

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A Rosettenville woman wishes to warn residents about a syndicate of scammers who call people, claiming they are phoning from Microsoft Windows and would like to confirm certain information.

“These people are crooks, they phoned me a couple of times, but whenever I tell them that my phone is monitored they end the call.

“They even phoned my mother, who is an elderly woman who does not use computers. But they told her they want to speak to her about her Windows, a microsoft operating system.

“Fortunately I phoned Telkom and realised those people are trying to get information from me. I was told that even a bank cannot ask you for your pin.

“I want people to be aware of this syndicate of criminals, because they are very persistent and keep calling,” said a resident, who asked to remain anonymous.

The caring resident of Rosettenville wants people to protect their information from such people, as she has a friend who was once conned out of money by people claiming to be from his smartphone service provider.
