‘We need help’ – drug addicts

Boredom is one of the contributing factors in their drug escapade

GLENESK – Two drug addicts from Glenesk who want to become clean from drugs and substance abuse, need help.

Rickey van Drau (21) and Leon Fourie (19) went to Thulani Nkosi of Mark 17 Project (an organisation in Rosettenville that deals with young troubled souls) to ask for help. The pair use heroin. One of the reasons they want to quit is because whenever there’s a break-in or something stolen in the area, they are the prime suspects. However, the most important thing to them is to have a better life.

“We are tired of asking money from people and fighting with our parents. I want to do something positive with my life. I was a mechanical engineering student at a college and I dropped out because of drugs. I feel like my life is on pause. I don’t enjoy my childhood. Maybe finding a job will help,” explained Rickey.

Boredom is one of the contributing factors in their drug escapade. “We sit all day doing nothing. I used to be a rugby player, a fly-half for Golden Lions. When I was 15 I played for the first team. I want to change, and that is why we went to Thulani to ask for help,” noted Leon.

Rickey mentioned that he is tired of disappointing his parents, and he confirms that they need to change themselves before they can seek help from others.

Thulani concurs with Rickey. “As a life coach I can see they want to change, because they came to me for help. I don’t believe in rehab, but I know when a person is sincere, results will show. I want these boys to help themselves first,” said Thulani.

Mark 17 Project has helped a lot of youngsters in the South and Thulani Nkosi can be contacted at 083 752 2679.
