Botched hijacking driver mourns
The man who was killed was buried in Mozambique on Monday September 22.
SOUTH HILLS – A week after the botched hijacking where a 41-year-old man died in South Hills, the trauma of the 36-year-old driver is still unbearable.
The driver of the vehicle said they picked up a coloured man who was hiking at East Road, The Hill area. The suspect looked innocent, where he was seen asking for a lift.
The driver said he has flashbacks of what happened on that day and still mourns the death of his friend. “After giving a lift to the hijacker, he put a firearm on the left side of the neck and said drive. My friend tried to wrestle the firearm from him and that’s when a shot went off. We gave him the lift because the guy was familiar to both of us,” explained the driver.
The driver was helped by a community member, who took him to Moffatview Police Station, where a case of hijacking was opened and later a murder case.
The man who was killed was buried in Mozambique on Monday September 22.
Moffatview Police Constable Bila said the hijacker is still at large. The investigation continues.
