Annual general meetings for SOJO and KlipSA

Many of the projects have now been included in the current Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for Region F

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – KlipSA held their fifth AGM at Southview Lodge on Tuesday August 26, and SOJO hosted their seventh AGM at Joburg Expo Centre on Wednesday August 28 to make strong representation of organisations in the South of Joburg.

Representation of interested parties attended the two separate meetings to hear the successes and challenges of the past year, which were highlighted by KlipSA Chair Andrew Barker and SOJO Chair Richard Bennet.

Members were welcomed and thanked for their ongoing support over the years. Specific activities and projects of the past year were presented and the audited financials were displayed for comment.

KlipSA voted in their executive committee comprising of one resignation, one alternate for a year and one new addition to the Exec.

They welcomed 11 new members to the association. SOJO also voted in their board of directors, which included one alternate for a year.

The precinct representatives had one resignation but no replacement. SOJO welcomed two new members who joined on the evening, namely Southview Lodge and FNB Stadium.

Andrew Barker presented the Seed to Feed project at both AGMs. Quoting from the presentation, Andrew informed members that “through the year the two organisations have been working together to promote economic growth and development in the southern areas of Johannesburg.

The primary focus has been to grow and develop the ideas for the establishment of future natural and organic-based agricultural activities serving the needs of local communities by providing business opportunities to small, medium and large corporate entities.

This has been the basis for the formulation of the “Klipriviersberg Agritropolis”, where agriculture will be the core economic activity with its associated value chain providing opportunities for the local economic growth and development to surrounding communities.

The prime focus is to address food security, unemployment, poverty and inequality by providing economic opportunities close to where people are living.

At the SOJO AGM, Richard informed the audience that during the past year, the focus of SOJO had shifted to seeing through the execution of many projects that have been promoted within the City Urban Management structures, among the various municipal-owned entities and with the Mayoral Council.

Many of the projects have now been included in the current Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for Region F and are promoted in the 2040 Growth and Development Plan. Recognition within these plans is essential for inclusion in the City’s Budget allocation.

The two associations thanked all who continue to support SOJO and KlipSA in their efforts to build the South of Joburg into the preferred place for employment, habitation and visiting.
