Farewell to dedicated educators

All the staff members were treated to a lunch at Gold Reef City's Boston BBQ after the function

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Two educators who have have served the school for a very long time said goodbye on an emotional and joyful Friday, August 29.

Ms. Isobel Verwey and Ms. Zelma Buss taught at Forest High School for almost eight decades between them, making them part of our country’s dedicated teachers who have contributed significantly to the country’s increased number of learners going to universities to pursue their dreams.

Isobel Verwey spent 37 years at the school and became head of the Natural Sciences department, and Zelma Buss spent 39 years at the school and became the head of the English department.

The two long-serving educators were honoured and celebrated for playing vital roles in grooming hundreds of learners, and it was very clear they will be missed by everyone.

To wish them well, the school organised a beautiful farewell function, where many learners gave speeches, read poems, sang and danced.

A former learner, Garetlale Maselwa, who was taught by both educators, expressed her sincere appreciation for the life lessons she learnt during her years at Forest High School.

Ms. Buss participated in this event by dramatising an English lesson, which highlighted the challenges that educators face on a day to day basis.

Principal Mark Petersen thoroughly commended the educators for their hard work, diligence and loyalty to the school.
