Police investigate possible perjury

Handing over property to pay off debts is illegal if not done according to the law

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Booysens police is taking a closer look at cases of motorists who report the theft of their motor vehicles after they have handed their vehicle over for payment.

The police officers have been instructed to interview all complainants before opening cases to establish that if it is found to be the case, the complainants will be arrested for perjury.

Booysens police Warrant and Communication Officer Lorraine van Emmerik said the station has already arrested a person for this crime committed under oath.

The community has been warned not to take part in this criminal act.
