JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A man in his thirties was killed and his wife and six-year-old boy are in a critical condition, after a collision last night at the Outspan and Heidelburg Road intersection in South Hills, Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the wrecked light motor vehicle wedged against the traffic light.
The truck which collided with the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road a short distance away.
Paramedics found that the male driver of the light motor vehicle had sadly succumbed to his injuries.
A woman in her late twenties lay trapped in the passenger seat, while her six-year-old child lay in his car seat in the back.
Jaws-of-life equipment had to be used to free the patients from the vehicle before further treatment could be given.
Once freed, paramedics provided the patients with advanced life support and transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene to investigate.
