Warning: ‘High crime rate in the South, be more vigilant’ – Councillor

Be careful of hijackers and robbers, the South has had a number of incidents where many residents became victims.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – DA ward 57 Councillor Faeeza Chame would like to urge the community of South Hills and surrounding areas such as Regents Park, Elands Park and La Rochelle to be more vigilant as there is an increase in the number of hijackings and robbery.

These areas had numerous power outages and street lights are more off than on due to the cables stolen almost every week, making it easy for the criminals to attack.

Cllr Chame urges that people must be accompanied by someone when they leave for work to their place of transport and when returning.

She also added that she would prefer if people walked in groups rather than walking individually if they know each other and work in the same areas.

“If you know about street lights not working in your street, please inform City Power on www.citypower.co.za click on ‘Fault Reporting‘ or SMS street lights out to: 32694,” said the DA councillor.
