Bus tour through Jozi’s southern suburbs

Joburg’s gateway from the south – Booysens, Turffontein, Mondeor and surrounds

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Another tour is offered in a series of tours to Johannesburg’s southern suburbs, this time tracing the main route from the Cape and Kimberley diamond fields to the Witwatersrand.

Places visited or seen en route will include the Crown Mines area, shedding a tear for all the mine dumps that have gone, Booysens, with its hotel and police station, and also some of the places where famous people lived; including artist Maud Sumner and Randlord Sir Abe Bailey.

In contrast we will see Daisy de Melker’s house and a number of buildings in Turffontein, including the fire station, racecourse and Holy Family College.

The Anglo-Boer War is also remembered as there will be a stop at the Mondeor Cemetery and memorials.

Meet Den Adams and Calvin Montgomery on Saturday, August 23 at 14:00 and park at the Sunnyside Park Hotel, 2 York Road, Parktown.

The duration of the tour is approximately three hours and the cost is R180 for members and R210 for non-members.

Bookings can be made through Computicket or with Eira Bond on 011 482 3349 every weekday morning from 09:00 to 13:00.
