Falling glass kills three and injures one in Ormonde

An inquest docket was opened at Booysens Police Station according to Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik, Communication Officer.

ORMONDE – Three of the four workers who were offloading glass from a truck on Wednesday August 13 were killed when a pallet of glass fell onto them in Ormonde, one was injured.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to an incident. Upon their arrival on the scene they found that three men had tragically lost their lives and one man was in a critical condition after glass fell on top of them. The critically injured man was treated on scene before he was rushed to hospital for the urgent medical care that he required.

An inquest docket was opened at Booysens Police Station according to Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik, Communication Officer.

She said at about 12:30, Booysens Police received a complaint of unnatural death at a premise in the Ormonde area.

“Upon arrival the police noticed that there was an accident involving glass and workers from company. They started to ask questions and it was established that workers were offloading glass from a truck when a pallet of glass fell on top of four workers. Three workers were declared dead on the scene and the fourth worker was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

“All relevant role players were contacted to attend the scene and SAPS opened a docket of inquest.

“Once all statements have been obtained, the docket will be forwarded to the Inquest Court for their decision,” explained W/O Van Emmerik.
