Ward 55 Cllr Landis wants to uplift the youth

All she wants to do is to help her community achieve their objectives.

CHRISVILLE – Councillor Rashieda Landis is the current the DA Ward 55 representative. She wants her community to fight drugs and advocates better lives of the youth.

“My community needs to join the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC). This is not only to fight drugs. We are very active in the upliftment of the youth. Let us unite against all the crime and grime in our area,” she urged

She responded to these questions:

How does it feel to be the Cllr? “Hectic, but I do enjoy working with the public.”

What makes you excited about this? “Service delivery must happen, but when I do something for a child, oh, just that smile gives me strength to carry on.”

What is your message to your competitors? “I am not here to compete. I am here to serve the public to the best of my ability. Open opportunity for all.”

What motivated you on the journey? “When I get a call to say ‘Thank you’.”

When did you first get involved in public service and how was the experience, and why did you decide to become a person who will work for people? “I have been a community worker for many years. I was a member of the CIDF for years. Politics started when I was in grade 10 in 1976.”

Are you married? With how many kids? “Yes, with two children.”

What is your message to the residents of your ward? “I am willing to work with anyone and everyone with respect.”

Who would you like to thank for their support? “Heartfelt thanks go out to my Working Committee for their commitment and dedication. To the community I am open to any suggestions and positive input from our ward.”

Things people do not know about you, hobbies and interests. “People can label you. I would like to let the public know that I am there to assist them to be used, not abused.”

What are your long-term and short-term goals in the public service? “Short-term: Help the public to build our community centre. Long-term: Build a step-down facility for our recovery drug addicts and a Skills Centre.”
