Dumped baby found

The mother gave birth and then dumped the baby where it could not be found easily

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – ON Thursday July 31, Building Manager Deazil Warwrick phoned the COURIER, very upset because he found a newborn baby dumped and hidden on a staircase in a Haddon building on Reeder Street.

Deazil saw a towel where it could not be easily seen, while he was working in the building. He reached for it, only to find a baby that was newly born and dumped to die.

He took the little boy to his wife, who acted like a caring mother and took care of the innocent boy, before he was taken to the South Rand Hospital.

“I am upset because I am a parent. I would never do that to a baby. Why would anyone dump a baby like that? There are a lot of people who want babies.”

What was disturbing to Deazil is that it was not the first time he found a dumped baby. A couple of years ago, Deazil found two newborn twins, unfortunately they were already dead.

“The baby is now healthy and happy at the hospital, and he was given a name. I encourage people not to do something like that,” Deazil added.

While it may be hard to raise a baby, dumping a baby so it could die is not a smart thing to do. There are organisations with people who have dedicated their lives to caring for children who do not have parents.

Those children grew up and become adults responsible for their lives and those of others because they know how hard it can be growing up without parents.

Such organisations do that out of love for children and respect for life. Nobody can be arrested or forced to be a parent to a baby they do not want in a democratic country like South Africa.

Adoption agencies do not judge or discriminate amongst babies. they take them in and help them find homes and loving families.

Door of Hope, Angels Baby Sanctuary and St Mary’s Children’s Home are some of the organisations one can get help from in the South of Johannesburg.
