Control who enters your property

Keeping threats outside is critical, no matter the type or size of your business or premises.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Access control systems are designed to ensure maximum control over the traffic flow of people in and out of your property.

Keeping threats outside is critical, no matter the type or size of your business or premises. “In order to ensure that only the right people have access to your facilities, you need to take precautions and put certain systems in place,” said Clive Humphrey, Managing Director of ADT Central Region.

Access control systems comprise an array of products in varying levels of sophistication. These include CCTV, digital scanner systems that utilise the latest computer-aided identification software, time-attendance systems, smart card technology – a system which stores critical employee information or biometric devises which use a person’s unique characteristics, like fingerprints, to determine access.

“Besides being able to control who enters your premises and who does not, these systems offer peace of mind because, in the event of a problem, you will have immediate back-up from your security company’s armed response service,” said Humphrey.

He points out that those small businesses don’t necessarily need complex systems. A single-door access control system, a photo ID badging systems for visitors or a web-hosted access control system will do the trick.

“These basic systems will help to deter, detect and document access in and out of a property, and this in itself will minimise loss from burglary, theft and inventory shrinkage, plus they reduce the risk of workplace violence, harassment and premise liability,” Humphrey added.

Access control however also means providing safe ways for the good guys to enter your property in case of an emergency. Here are some other products and ideas you can use to secure your small business:

• Mount a lock box at your front gate to securely store a remote or spare keys. The lock box has a coded lock for extra security.

• Install a wireless digipad. Create a four-digit access code, supply it to your security provider and in an emergency, they can gain quick access to your premises.

• Get a high quality, sturdy barrel lock to add an extra layer of security to your small business or home. You receive two keys and your security provider will carry a master key for access.
