‘Finger lickin good’ on Mandela Day

Each and every one received KFC Streetwise 2 with rolls and food parcels donated by KPMG

SOUTH HILLS – South Hills’ residents celebrated Mandela’s birthday in style when 500 KFC Streetwise 2 with rolls and 500 food parcels were delivered by KPMG Johannesburg at South Hills Recreation Centre.

This feast was organised by Rev Bill Robinson from Mission 96, Trixie Struwig and 23 KPMG staff. Scores of women gathered at the hall and they were welcomed by newly elected Ward 57 Cllr Faeeza Chame.

Rev Robinson welcomed the good gesture by KPMG staff. He has been involved in donations to and feeding people of the South for years. “I trusted Trixie to help me with this project, as a person who knows more about this community. We will continue to come here and feed the community. However, this occasion is in honour of a special man, Nelson Mandela,” he said.

All 23 KPMG staff helped in distributing the food in the hall. Director Zola Beseti said their Transformation and Diversity committee wanted to make a difference in the community.

“Our relationship with Mission 96 helped us to identify this community. We want to continue helping the communities we live in. I must say we did not anticipate so many people. On behalf of our department we are very grateful, I want to thank them for their efforts. Our sincere prayer is that in the near future this community will be able to provide for themselves, a Mandela wish, that everyone can have a better life in democratic South Africa. Hopefully God can come and help us to provide more,” explained Zola. Angie Ahkun from KPMG added that this is God’s pride, He uses people with good hearts to do this.

Ward 57 Cllr Faeeza Chame thanked Rev Bill Robinson (McCain), Trixie Struwig and KPMG, and said as South Hills community they need to speak with one voice and help one another. “The main reason for us to be here is Tata Madiba; though he has passed on, we wish him a happy birthday. He sacrificed time for us. That is why we are taking 67 minutes of our time to help where we can. Though it is a month of fasting, we want to thank KPMG for the food. We need to remember this is our area, we need to take care of it, we need to instil a sense of belonging, and the government will not do everything for us. I am here for you, even if you want to have tea with me, I am accessible (082 518 4375),” noted Cllr Chame.

Trixie Struwig from South Hills Recreation Centre said she wished other corporates can emulate KPMG with this wonderful initiative and she thanked them.

Residents also welcomed and thanked all involved. “Thank you, this was great,” said Rose Kuscus.
