Problems in dental clinics to be solved

“Why must I go to town ,when I have a hospital on my doorstep? They need to try and fix what is broken,” Johan noted.

THE HILL – Johan Ridz from Kenilworth went to the South Rand Hospital Dental Clinic to get help, but he was told that the machines are not working.

He said this problem has been going on for the past nine months. Johan was also told to go to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital for help.

“Why must I go to town ,when I have a hospital on my doorstep? They need to try and fix what is broken,” Johan noted.

Gauteng Department of health was contacted and Head of Communications Prince Hamnca responded:

“Some of the dental clinics in Johannesburg District have challenges with equipment, and therefore they offer basic services such as extractions and treatment of infections. Patients in need of other services are referred to Wits Dental Hospital, which is based at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

“In the current financial year, funds have been allocated for the purchase of dental equipment. This equipment will be for all dental clinics in the province. Johannesburg alone has been allocated R2,5 million.

“Currently the procurement process is in progress and the expected delivery date is the end of July or the beginning of August, 2014. Post delivery and installation, all dental clinics will be able to offer all services, improving service delivery.”
