Copper thief busted at scrapyard

Police waited for the suspect at the scrapyard where he was due to sell the copper

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Booysens police received a tip about a suspect, who was going to sell stolen copper to a scrapyard in Booysens Reserve, and waited to arrest him at the scrapyard upon arrival.

The police officers were given a precise description of the vehicle the suspect was going to use to transport the copper, and it helped them identify the car before approaching the suspect.

Booysens police officers introduced themselves and asked to search the vehicle, where they found large amounts of suspected stolen copper cables.

The suspect was arrested for theft on the scene and taken to the Booysens SAPS.

The police are still investigating the case.
