Abbott’s College student excels with the violin

Gisela Fossati (18) a student at Abbotts College Johannesburg South, plays the violin, and extremely well!

ABBOTTS COLLEGE JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – She began playing in grade 1, after hearing one of her friends playing the violin, and she fell in love with the musical instrument.

Gisela’s violin was made in 1945 and is one from a set of 12, handmade by Colin-Mézin French and called Le Victrieux.

Gisela has played with the National Youth Orchestra, SA Tattoo at Montecasino, The Rand Club and she still plays with the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra.

“I try and practice for at least 45 minutes a day but at the moment I’m studying hard for my matric exams,” said Gisela.

She also plays at functions, such as birthdays and weddings and enjoys playing classical / romantic music.

When she isn’t hard at work or playing the violin, she enjoys tennis and hockey. She’s also involved with community work, visiting St Mary’s Children’s Home twice a week to assist children with their homework.

The CHRONICLE asked what she would like to do after she’s matriculated. “I’ll hopefully be accepted for university and want to study medicine. Later after I’m qualified it would be great to become a doctor on a cruise ship for a while, that way I’d get to see the world too.”

If you are interested in booking Gisela to play her violin at an event, phone 076 939 5263.
