Silver Mercedes Benz gang struck again

The armed robberies usually strike at sunset during the week and weekends

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The ‘Silver Mercedes-Benz Gang’ who staged a robbery at Mulberton on Friday May 9 are believed to have struck once again, this time staging a robbery in Blairgowrie.

Resident David Evans told Eyewitness News that three armed men in a silver Mercedes-Benz ransacked his home at the weekend, stealing anything they could carry.

Officials believe a four-member gang has been operating in a number of Johannesburg suburbs, including Glenvista, Mulbarton and Brackendowns.

The gang, which uses a C-Class Mercedes as its car of choice, are alleged to be responsible for a series of armed robberies, and they usually strike at sunset during the week and weekends in the Glenvista and Mulbarton areas, before driving off to Brackendowns later the same evening, targeting a victim shortly afterwards.

On Friday May 9 at 17:42 the suspects targeted a home in Farnham Drive, Mulbarton. They were driving the silver Mercedes, which had false registration plates, WRG 991GP, at the time.

They drew up behind the vehicle, which was exiting the property, blocking its way and proceeded to take the driver’s cellphone and car keys. Apparently the suspects always take the car keys, but seldom the car.

A case has been opened at the Linden police station.

Evans has also posted CCTV footage of the incident online in an effort to alert people about the gang.
