Zuma stays on as president

Jacob Zuma has been re-elected for another five-year term as South Africa’s president.

CAPE TOWN – Eyewitness News reported, “He was the only candidate nominated during a Parliamentary sitting in Cape Town on Wednesday afternoon.”

The Democratic Alliance (DA) however objected to Zuma’s nomination.

DA MP James Selfe asked the presiding officer, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, to rule that Zuma was not a “fit and proper” to hold the position.

But the opposition party was quickly overruled by Mogoeng.

During the swearing in of the Members of Parliament (MP), the Economic Freedom Fighters donned on their red overalls as they indicated they would before the day’s proceedings.

Among the MPs sworn in earlier today is the youngest MP Yusuf Cassim of the DA.

Cassim is currently DA Youth’s Federal Chairperson and received support from DA Youth Federal Leader, Mbali Ntuli.

Cassim formed part of the DA’s Young Leaders class of 2011. He became the SRC President at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2012, and the DA Youth Federal Chairperson in 2013.
