Mondeor Community School holds elections

Grade R learners place their X next to the party that tickled their taste buds, at schools own elections.

MONDEOR – Mondeor Community School Grade R held their own elections on May 6 to help the children understand the concept of what would be happening in the whole country on Election Day May 7.

“The morning started with meeting the candidates, three chocolate bars were introduced to the children and they all got a chance to taste each one in order for them to choose their favourite,” explained Mondeor Community School Principal, Janine Hall.

Each one of the children had to make their own ID book and draw their own “photo.” Thereafter, their elections began.

“Of course there had to be a long queue to wait in, each child had to show their Identity Book at the door and get their thumbs marked,” continued Principal Hall.

The children then received a ballot paper each showing the three ‘candidates’ and proceeded to the voting booth. In the voting booth they got a chance to make a cross in the box next to their favourite chocolate bar.

The learners then went on to the ballot box to pop their vote into the ballet box, and at the end of the whole process, the votes were counted and the winner was declared.

The children had a wonderful time and left school with a clearer understanding of what an election occasion entails.
