Burst water pipe in South Hills

The burst pipe left nearby residents without water while causing slow traffic.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A Burst pipe at corner of Quantock Road and Southern Klipriviersberg left nearby residents without water, while it caused traffic in the busy intersection.

The pipe, which burst on Monday April 28 around 23:00, surprised commuters who saw a fountain of water coming out of the ground.

On Tuesday April 29, Rand Water employees came to stop the water although it was still spilling at 15:00. They were notified by residents from the area and commuters who use the roads.

Traffic on the road was steady and risky as cars had to share a lane on the corner; a lot of water was spilling down the slope of Quantock Road while some of the water was flowing down Southern Klipriviersberg Road.

This is not the first time that a pipe burst near Queen’s Haven Old Age Home. A month ago, the COURIER reported a story about water coming out of the ground on the other corner of the home (corner of Southern Klipriviersberg and Outspan Road).

In the previous article, a caring resident and commuter, Linda Constable, had seen water coming out of the ground and reported the matter to City Power to obtain a reference number.

She feared the nearby old age home could end up having to pay for the water which was spilling down Outspan Road.
