Pitbulls are misrepresented by the media

These dogs are being stolen and used to fight for money.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – I briefly go through the newspaper every Wednesday when I receive it, and a few weeks ago there was an article about how staffy and pitbull puppies or adult dogs are being stolen in the area and being used to fight for money.

In today’s newspaper, a particular article about ‘Keep your dog from being a threat,’ a picture of a white pitbull appeared.

I would just like to know why you chose that picture? I did not take offense, but I’m just curious about why you chose that particular picture and that particular breed of dog to represent your title ‘Keep your dog from being a threat’.

Its because of social media that this breed of dog is constantly dragged through the muck and given a bad reputation, and in actual fact, none of these social media platforms takes the time to find out what they are all about. Its because of such articles that I am asked ‘aren’t you scared’ or ‘didn’t you read about this breed’.

I have a pitbull, and after reading your article about dog fighting, I made sure that my dog is safe and away from the front gate of my premises so that no one could steal him, because this dog, this pitbull is the best thing in my life.

I challenge your newspaper, the journalists, do some research about this breed of dog, and get into contact with pitbull owners who don’t have their dogs fight, or put them on steroids, you would actually be surprised. This is an extremely strong but equally loving breed of dog.

Kind regards

The Newspapers’ comment: The choice of photograph was not to target any breed and the newspaper apologises to those it might have offended.
