Inside Report with Basch: It is getting hot in here

The elections are creeping closer and closer and the race to the finish is certainly heating up.

Policy debate seems to have been set aside by service delivery track record, and by this I may say the lack of service delivery track record.

We have seen the Nkandla report tear into the credibility of the office of the President, with the ruling party sitting back and questioning why they ever put Advocate Thuli Madonsela in the seat of Public Protector.

On the blue wave side of the debate, Premier candidate Mmusi Maimane has come out strong in favour of growing small business to stimulate the market and increase jobs.

In this regard he has pledged to use the empty government buildings to give entrepreneurs a space to open an office and to start trading.

He was also very vocal over the education system, and how he would insist that teachers actually take the exams that they set for the children, because according to him if they can’t pass the exams that they set, then they shouldn’t be teaching the kids.

So the campaign trail is blazing at the moment, with all eyes set on May 7. All the parties are pulling out all the stops to win votes, and there has been some interesting headline moments with party members crossing the floor from one party to another, obviously this is being done in the eyes of the media to gain as much coverage as possible and to deflect the public’s attention from the real issues, job creation, corruption and service delivery.

As we move forward I only hope that the people of our great city and country see the need for change, because while change is scary and resisted, it is a necessity that brings growth and prosperity. So roll on the 7th and let’s see what wins: change or corruption.
