Confusion on licence renewal explained

The centre upholds the Batho Pele Principles, which guides the staff on how to improve customer relations and service delivery.

ORMONDE – A customer who went for her driver’s license renewal last month at Xavier Junction was livid with the service she received.

She wanted to know why she had to pay R300 for her driver’s license renewal (including the temporary licence as they take four months to print the new ones), but only get a receipt for R228. She said R72 was unaccounted for. There were also no receipts issued for the photos and copies to the amount of R55. “Who benefits from this tax free (without receipt) monies?” she asked.

Sherol Moroke, Xavier Junction Driver Licensing and Testing Centre Supervisor, said at the centre they uphold the Batho Pele Principles, which guides them on how to improve customer relations and service delivery.

“We always provide accurate information about the services a customer is entitled to receive, as well as being open and transparent about how we work. The driver’s license renewal fee is R228, for which the applicant is issued with a receipt. If the applicant requires a temporary driver’s license, a fee of R72 is charged, and this amount reflects on the temporary driver’s license issued to the applicant. So the temporary driver’s license is also a receipt for the R72 payment.

“All applicants are informed that they will receive SMS’s to collect their driver’s license cards in three weeks’ time, and that applicants must collect their cards within 120 days. The centre does not take ID photos and therefore cannot charge for services we do not offer,” she said.
