City Power contractors cut power on a holiday

"Cutting my power shows they have no respect for other people’s property."

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – ON Friday March 21, City Power contractors cut Mario Bassani’s electricity because they could not get onto his property to read his meter.

Bassani and his wife, who live in Oakdene, came back from shopping on that morning to find a man and a woman who had just cut off their power.

Bassoni is angry as he feels that his rights were violated by a contractor who had no good reason to cut his power.

“I would understand if he had left a sign or message that he has been coming to read my meter but he could not find anyone.

“He didn’t even give me a warning to say that if I cannot find you, I will cut your power on this date if I cannot find anyone at home.

“But for them to just cut my power, shows they have no respect for other people’s property.

“When I asked him what would he do if I had gone on holiday and all my food in the fridge and freezer got rotten, he said ‘Sue City Power’.”

Bassani managed to convince them to turn the power back on before they left. He said these two were driving a Ford bakkie.

A City Power credit controller, Mathobela, said he could not find anything that would explain why the contractors had to cut Bassani’s power.

The COURIER obtained the contractor’s car registration number and will investigate whether or not the contractors work for City Power.
