Fatal accident claims youngster’s life

Well known and loved youngster dies tragically, the full story.

KIBLER PARK – A young man lost his life in a tragic accident on Impala Road in Kibler Park near Thaba Ya Batswana late night of March 22.

Twenty-two-year-old Luke O’Reily, a resident of Suideroord, crashed into the land post erected during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, at around 23:00, when he lost control of the grey Audi A3 hatchback he was driving and rolled 500m.

Luke would have turned 23 this year. He was a well loved individual in the South. The news of his passing comes as a blow to many who knew and loved him. The young man whose family is still grieving was the second youngest son.

“Our sympathy and condolences go out to the family of Luke and our thoughts are with them in the time of need,” empathised Sector 2 Mondeor CPF coordinator, Michelle Pelser.

JMPD, Kibler Park fire officers and Mondeor CPF were on the scene of the fatal accident.

The Kibler Park Fire Department arrived on the scene at 23:43, after they received a call alerting them to the tragedy. The impact of the collision was so intense that it resulted in the man being ejected from the vehicle, although it is unknown if he died on impact. He was found outside the vehicle.

The Fire Department officers’ arrival was closely followed by a Sector 2 Mondeor CPF patroller, who was on his way back from an attempted hijacking and had stopped to find out what had taken place.

The shock came when the Sector 2 patroller found out that the person hurt in the accident was a fellow Sector 2 patroller who had joined only a month ago.

“That road is very dark. When people travel there they should use the road with caution. The council needs to put up some sort of road measures,” expressed a concerned Pelser.

JMPD Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed that a case of culpable homicide had been opened at Mondeor SAPS. It has not been determined if Luke died at the scene of the accident.
