Helping victims of savage dogs

Contributing efforts can assist the team to help those who suffered from dog attacks

A LOCAL Alberton resident who is part of Team Liqui-Fruit will be participating in the tough upcoming 2014 Absa Cape Epic in order to raise R500 000 for two dog attack victims.

Thirty-three-year old Dion Froneman will be raising funds for Angus Makubela and Ulrich van Pletzen.

Ten years ago, Angus Makubela was mauled by a bullterrier, which lead to the right side of his face and ear being badly savaged. He was on the way to visit his neighbour and noticed the gate was closed. He then tried to climb over as he could not reach the latch. That is the last thing that Angus remembers about that day. Ulrich van Pletzen was mauled by a dog in Struisbaai on December 31, 2009 at the age of four. He has already undergone several operations, but will require a further 30 in the next few years. There is still a lot of work needed to rebuild his jaw, nose, lip and the implantation of teeth.

Alberton local Dion Froneman states, “Being a dad of two kids, who smile at me with their perfect smiles, makes me feel happy to afford this opportunity to raise funds for less fortunate families who do not have this opportunity.”

The public can follow Dion on https://www.liquifruit.co.za/ican/?page_id=243&athlete-category=cape-epic-2014 for more information or if they wish to assist him. The collaboration between Liqui-Fruit iCan and the Cipla Miles for Smiles Foundation hopes to provide corrective surgery to Angus and Ulrich and several others, and to also inspire and challenge more individuals to go out and make a difference in the lives of others.
