Southern COURIER shines at Caxton Awards

The Alberton RECORD was nominated in the category for Best Free Newspaper, 24 pages and more. The RECORD received recognition for continuously offering readers quality content and general layout of the newspaper.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Annette van Schalkwyk, Elizabeth Madonsela and Lucky Thusi made the list of nominations at the 25th Caxton Excellence Awards on Thursday March 13.

Both Annette (Sport photo) and Lucky (Hard news photo) received Highly Commended certificates for their photographs, and Elizabeth in the category; Switchboard Operator of the Year. She said, “Being one of the finalists came as a surprise. I am very happy to be mentioned as one of the best switchboard operators in the company.”

Alberton RECORD Editor Carina van der Walt said, “When your newspaper is representative of a company as large as Caxton, competing against many other publications in the Caxton stable, it is an honour to be one of the finalists in such a large category. We are proud of a team that excelled in the awards. This is once again proof that we are passionate about the product we bring to our community on a weekly basis.”

The big winner of the evening was Jurie Hayes, a classifieds sale person who received an award for Best Telesales Person of the Year. On accepting the award he thanked Caxton Joburg South’s Branch Manager, Christiaan Welthagen, and Classifieds Manager, Logan Govender, for always believing in him. He said, “Thank you to Christiaan of the Alberton branch, who believed in me even though there was more than enough good reason to give up.”
