Bev Turk joins ANC

Miss Turk wants to thank Elaine Humeron who was actively involved in her joining the ruling party, she facilitated the move for her.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The new political home for former Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward 57 Clr Bev Turk is now the African National Congress (ANC). She joined the party with other DA members, Dot Corrigan, Sipho Masigo and Alison van der Molen on Tuesday March 18.

Beverly Turk had been with the Democratic Alliance for the past 13 years and she’s been the councillor in the South for 11 years.

“It has probably come as a culture shock to most residents, however on the whole it has not been bad at all. I had in fact being thinking of changing to the ANC for quite some time now. This is not just today’s issue. I certainly have enjoyed my time with the DA; it was never easy being the opposition for so long. But with age and somewhat more mature, I have learnt a lot more wisdom and insight. I have come to realise that we need to get our wonderful City of Johannesburg to run properly and as it should be run. Johannesburg is the most vibrant city, both economically and culturally,” she explained.

Cde Toni Molefe wrote on his Facebook page: “We welcome three DA Joburg councillors in the ANC. Former DA Joburg Caucus Chief Whip Cde Dot Corrigan, Cde Bev Turk and Cde Alison van der Molen. Viva ANC viva. Makhura train boss.”

Miss Turk wants to thank Elaine Humero, who was actively involved in her joining the ruling party, she facilitated the move for her.

“I must say that I am excited about the new venture, it is certainly going to be a learning curve for me, and I am going to grab it with both hands, and again work for the improvement of the community, whether I am re-elected or not. Also, I would like to thank the residents of Ward 57 for their continued support for me. The last election results really humbled me, and for that I am grateful.

“It is now the best time for me to thank the Democratic Alliance for giving me the opportunity of working within the community as I have always wanted to do. It was an exciting experience, but all seasons come to an end, and new seasons begin. This is the beginning of a new season for me,” Miss Turk noted.

In welcoming Beverly Turk, Gauteng ANC spokesperson Dumisani Ntuli said, “We welcome Clr Bev Turk and the other members’ stand towards the ANC. They did not join the ANC because they were promised money or any material wealth. It is clear they can see that the ANC is a great political party; not a party distinguished by race, ethnicity or culture.”
