Councilor calls for patience on Turffontein streets

Streets in Tuffontein were falling into a chaotic state as the rain continued unabated, preventing City Power to deal with various problems and complaints.

TURFFONTEIN – Trees that were cut and left in Kennedy Street caused numerous complaints from residents. ANC’s Ward 124 Councillor Sydney Radebe encourages residents to be patient, because the trees were actually left to dry so that they could be easily cut up with chainsaws and removed.

Grass is growing on the sides of and into the roads and some people have thrown rubbish on the corners of the streets.

Meanwhile, City Power has been difficult to reach for the past two weeks as they are experiencing a high volume of calls.

“It would be dangerous for anyone to use electricity equipment in this rainy weather, that is why the trees have not yet been removed. I called City Power to inform them about this tall trees, as community members were worried that criminals hide behind them, waiting to break into people’s houses.

“I can assure you that the trees will definitely be removed. The long grass growing next to the roads will be cut soon. The contractor that previously dealt with these situations is no longer with City Power. The new contractor will act swiftly to address the issue,” said Radebe.
