Baked beans suspect offers officers R4 000 bribe

An unidentified man was arrested in connection with stolen baked beans worth R200 000, after he tried to bribe crime intelligence officers on Tuesday February 25 at South Hills.

JOHANNESBURG – The Germiston Crime Intelligence officers received an anonymous tip about the man, who was in possession of the allegedly stolen cases of baked beans. The officers acted swiftly and approached him about the baked beans.

The man did not answer any questions concerning the food, instead he tried to offer the officers a bribe of R4 000 to forget about the whole thing and release him and the goods. Officers had no interest in his money but enforced the law.

The cases of the allegedly stolen baked beans were discovered in a garage after the officers produced legal documents, which certified their right to enforce the law. They searched the property.

The police are still investigating, according to Constable Bila of the Moffatview SAPS.
