Eskom warns of load shedding

An emergency situation has been declared by Eskom and a warning of possible power cuts.

SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – According to Andrew Etzinger, spokesperson for Eskom, heavy rain since last weekend has left stock piles of coal wet

Etzinger has appealed to large industrial consumers to reduce their electricity usage by 10 per cent but this may not be enough to stop future load shedding.

The public are being asked to reduce their electricity consumption to ease the present situation.

Homeowners and businesses are asked to please switch off geysers, non-essential lights, pool pumps and air conditioners between 17:00 and 21:00.

In a statement from Eskom, “We call on all South Africans to pull together over the next few months and use electricity sparingly by living lightly this summer.”
